Oak Panels with Carved Frieze Widworthy Barton, Devon
Obviously there were, at this time, many who preferred the old-fashioned oblong panelling to the more complicated shapes with richly moulded frame. In this particular room, the Hall, the ceiling was at one time carved oak beams by the Exeter Guild craftsmen; members of the family who owned it some quarter of a centuryago remember when parts of it were still intact; now all that remains are the little plaster angels supporting the Minstrel Gallery, and a small section of plaster frieze on the inside wall of the gallery itself.
